A large mountainous and plateau province in the Northwest; population about 1.3 million (2024). It hosts Vietnam's largest hydropower plant (the 2,400 MW Sơn La dam) and the Mộc Châu plateau's tea, coffee, dairy and temperate-fruit farming. It kept its territory in the 2025 merger.

Summary
Decision No. 106/2025/QD-UBND of the People's Committee of Son La province, dated 6 October 2025, promulgates detailed provincial regulations implementing certain provisions of the Land Law 2024 and related Government decrees. Issued pursuant to the Law on Organization of Local Government 72/2025/QH15, the Law on Promulgation of Legal Normative Documents 64/2025/QH15 as amended by Law 87/2025/QH15, the Land Law 31/2024/QH15 as amended by Law 43/2024/QH15, and multiple Government decrees (including but not limited to Decrees 71/2024/ND-CP, 88/2024/ND-CP, 101/2024/ND-CP, 102/2024/ND-CP, 103/2024/ND-CP, 112/2024/ND-CP, 62/2025/ND-CP, 78/2025/ND-CP, 79/2025/ND-CP, 187/2025/ND-CP, 131/2025/ND-CP, 136/2025/ND-CP, 151/2025/ND-CP and 226/2025/ND-CP).
